The Challenge

A global pharmaceutical company had a history of letting each location make their own hire decisions around coaching, resulting in:

  • Coaches that were not qualified (no certification or proper training)
  • Varied approaches to coaching (e.g., coaching based only on assessments)
  • Low involvement of stakeholders, including the manager of the coaches

Our client decided to:

  • Standardise coaching interventions to reduce variability
  • Create a standard approach and philosophy of good coaching
  • Select preferred vendors to provide qualified coaches


Our partnership in coaching is growing as Organisation Solutions becomes more aware of our client’s new coaching standards.

We have seen some early success, including:

  • Positive capability improvement measured on all coaching engagements
  • Continued coaching once initial coaching is completed for some leaders
  • Expanded use of coaching with other leaders

Provided coaching for leaders on three continents across multiple cities.

We wanted to meet our client’s needs whilst also maintaining the high quality of our own approach to coaching.

To do this, we first designed coaching interventions that met the basic layout and hourly needs for our client. One of their levels of intervention was so small that we recommended the client only use it to provide 360 or assessment feedback.

We then worked with the client to adapt some of our tools to their structure to ensure we had the best development methodology available.

We reviewed our coaches with them to ensure they all met our client’s standards and then introduced this to their broader organisation.
