Our tech client's global leadership team was experiencing conflict and was not working well together. The CEO wanted the team to take more ownership but felt the team was coming to him for most decisions. They leveraged our Team Alignment Workshop to identify and address issues in order to improve how they operate.

Approach

The leadership team operated in fast-paced environment and made quick decisions. But, as they grew, this became more difficult. The CEO did not want to be a decision bottleneck and wanted the team to work through more issues on their own.

  1. Team Alignment Survey Results

    The team were aligned with their key stakeholders, but had low scores on Process and People. They did not know how to operate as a team and did not support each other well. This impacted the team's psychological safety and their overall effectiveness.

  2. Interviews Pinpoint Issues

    Diagnostic interviews before the workshop showed that decision making was one key Process issue, and leaders were able to identify specific decisions that needed to be made.

  3. Alignment Workshop Drives Actions

    During the workshop, the team agreed on a decision-making model, specific actions to improve alignment, and how the team wanted to operate going forward.

Results

In the following weeks, the team:

  • Addressed Key Decisions. The team decided how to progress four large, complex decisions in the team meeting. Over the next few weeks, they progressed and then ultimately resolved these decisions.

  • Improved Leader Dialogue. During the workshop, the team identified and addressed some of their communication challenges. This resulted in a positive experience in the workshop and improved dialogue in subsequent meetings.

  • Improved Team Dynamics. Team dynamics improved. The team encountered less conflict and frustration and were more aligned on how they operated together.
